Drinking, thinking, talking, listening.
Do you enjoy intelligent and lively discussions about current events, history, human rights, international politics, philosophy, science, and technology? Are you skeptical of alternative health remedies, conspiracy theories, religious dogma, or other extraordinary claims? Then pull up a chair and meet sceptics/skeptics, science buffs, atheists, agnostics, secular humanists, and freethinkers for a serving of critical thinking based on evidence and reason at Skeptics in the Pub (SITP) Ottawa.
We usually meet at 7:00 PM on the first Tuesday of each month in the right rear corner of The Lieutenant’s Pump, 361 Elgin Street at Waverley in the Golden Triangle neighbourhood of Centretown. You can park on the street for free after 5:30, take OC Transpo buses 5, 14, or 18, or walk 15 minutes from the uOttawa O-Train Station across the Corktown Footbridge.
This popular monthly event is organized by several secular groups in Ottawa and you can RSVP on behalf of you and your friends at the Meetup pages for either Humanist Ottawa or Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFIC) Ottawa Branch. Food and drinks are optional, but good conversation and good company are on tap and on the house!
Since the first SITP in London in 1999, the concept has spread to over 100 cities across the UK and more than 20 countries worldwide. Learn more at the SITP website or Wikipedia.
Unlike some SITP groups, our Ottawa pub nights have no set agenda or guest speaker. This is a fun and relaxed social event where you can simply exchange ideas and opinions with the people at your table on different topics as they come up. Join us when you can, leave when you want, and speak as much or as little as you like.
